Some Mt Cootha Trivia
I always like to find out some interesting facts or little bits of history or trivia when I travel. On a Run It Running Tour there is always lots of great things to see, but in case you want to know a little bit more about Mt Cootha here are some interesting facts.
Mt Cootha is 287 metres above sea level and can boost of having the the highest peak of urban Brisbane.
Mt Cootha was once called 'One Tree Hill' after a large area of bush was cleared on the top of the mountain except for one large eucalypt tree. This was replaced in 1880 when it was given the name of Mt Cootha (honey mountain).
Aboriginal people used to go to Mt Cootha (honey mountain) to collect 'kuta'(honey)that was produced by the local native bees.
You will find on the ridge near the summit the local television networks along with radio transmitters.
In 1880 the area was declared a Public Recreation Reserve.
One of the things you get to do on the Discover Mt Cootha tour is spend some time taking in the views at the Summit Lookout. It is the best vantage point to see Brisbane from.
